Here's a little something that best explains my two weeks and a half experience of being in Wellington so far. It's actually for the uni articel but have fun reading. Enjoy!
What do you like about Victoria University so far? What is your first impression of the University?
Honestly, the first impression is ‘tiring’.
The first campus that I had to go to was Kelburn Campus. It is about 15 minutes walk from Stafford House and it is located on top of the hill. The journey was tiring. I’ve never hiked a hill that steep! I had to stop so many times! But once I reached the top, the breathtaking view make up for all the tiredness i felt. The campus is beautiful compared to the campus that I’ve seen in my country. And since my old college was nothing of a campus, it was something new and exciting for me. The facilities provided there are very impressive and I couldn’t find any reason fro a student to not feel comfortable and hate the campus. Everything that a student might need is complete and easily accessed. And whenever you feel lost, there’s always a friendly face to assist and guide you around.
What is your first impression of Wellington?
I was very excited along the plane ride to Wellington. Just few minutes before landing, I was deeply in love with the view. I knew that I have come to the right place and I have not regret my decision of choosing to go here instead of Auckland or Christchurch. When I got out of the plane, I fell in love with view all over again. The view is amazing. Can’t say the same about the whether though (hahahaha). I came from a place which the average temperature is about 30 degree and coming to Wellington during it’s coldest season is quite a culture shock for me but with the right amount of warm clothes and a little time to get used to it, I’m sure I’ll survive. My arrival at the airport was greeted with a friendly and warm welcome by teams from VUW and EMNZ. They drove me to my Stafford House and there I met many more friendly people. I was greeted with the same friendly and warm welcome again.
It has been about two weeks and half since I arrived here and I love every bits of Wellington. Of course, there’s the hilly roads, super cold weather, rains and strong wind but everything apart that is amazing. I’m loving Wellington!
Why are you looking forward to your time here?
Culture, outdoor activities and beautiful view. Three things that I will never grow tired of and Wellington has each and every of these aspects. I would like to learn and see more of the Maori culture, try every outdoor activities that I am brave enough to do (bungee jumping, skydiving, canoeing, hiking etc.) and of course, travelling around New Zealand to see and experience the beautiful views myself.
How long are you studying at Victoria for?
Two years.
What is your Major? And how many years is your degree?
I am doing my BCom majoring in accounting. I’ve completed one year of degree in my home country and I will be doing another two years here.
How far through your degree are you?
I am currently at the starting of my second year.
Why did you choose to take part in the programme?
I’ve always dream to be a successful accountant when I grow up. I applied to many scholarship programme that will send me to overseas but this was the only opportunity i received. The founder of my college is a well respected and successful man in my home country and he graduated from VUW of a similar programme. It would be a dream come true for me to grow up and be as successful as him. I believe that this programme will help me achieve my dream and so I chose to take part in it.
