"Bounded by steep cliffs and dense rainforest, Milford Sound is by far the best known of all of the fiords in New Zealand, and the only one that can be accessed by road. Rain or shine, Milford Sound continues to captivate even the most experienced traveller. At the pinnacle of Milford Sound is the iconic Mitre Peak - standing a proud 1,692 metres above sea level, it is certainly an impressive sight to behold. It is approximately 16km from the head of the fiord to the open sea, which means visitors can comfortably travel the length of the fiord to open ocean and return on one of the many cruise options."

It's true. "Rain or shine, Milford Sound continues to captivate even the most experienced traveller". It was raining the day we went. But the view was no where close to disappointing.

Most of my friends complained that they don't enjoy Milford Sound as much as most people said they did on the reviews. But I think there's an explanation for that. You see, I would not advise you to drive to Milford Sound on your own. If you're thinking of doing that, please stop! You will regret it. And trust me, you don't want to be upset on the cruise and cursing instead of enjoying the view.

Why? While Milford itself is beautiful. The journey is much more beautiful. Driving on your own, you wouldn't know where these beauties are as they are mostly hidden. You wouldn't thinking of stopping, you would drive til you reach Milford Sound and when you do, you'll be super tired and you feel like the view is not worth the long drive. That's the mistake.

Going with a tour, they pick you up from the accommodation, drive you all the way to Milford Sound and back and not to mention, show you all those hidden beauties you'd miss if you drive on your own. There's Mirror Lake, Fiordland and other places that I don't remember the name. All along the Te Anau-Milford Highway. There were beautiful lakes, rivers and waterfalls. We even got to play with some wild bird that I don't know the name of but they were cute and pretty and big and it was fun and nice. The cruise was a great ending to the journey and it was amazing. If you drive on your own, you would get this and trust me, you would want to get this. So, ditch that idea and join the tour okay?

If only I had a fancy camera :(
