My Very First EARTHQUAKE #EQNZ

It was a perfect Sunday. The sun was shining bright, it wasn't that cold and windy. The weather was superb. It was the perfect way to start my summer break (finals is over! yeayy).

I woke up early in the morning to settle my room inspection before my departure. Went to the Sunday market, spent the afternoon there for lunch. Went shopping for souvenir with Remedy a bit later and finally home to rest. Off to the city again later in the evening for a sweet treat at Mishmosh (the best and cheapest freak shake) and dinner at Arashi, and home again.

It was almost midnight. Aqmar, Sara and I were happily watching Suicide Squad (which is awesome and not as bad as people said it was) on Sara's bed, snuggled between blankets and enjoying cookies and cream.

The room was shaking. I could hear something (not sure what) cracking and grumbling. The door was swinging. I got excited as I took my phone and snapchat the situation, thinking it was just a small shake like the ones I've felt before. Boy, I was wrong. It was longer and stronger than usual. Sara and Aqmar were terrified as I giggled happily, feeling excited and that was when I realised, this was the real deal.

We ran to the kitchen and rushed under the table staring at the drawers of the kitchen cabinet and the dishwasher door pulled open by itself. After a while, it was finally safe again. Thankfully, nothing fell or got broken in my room. There was a bit crack in the ceilings and the walls but it was nothing major (compared to my friends' houses which had bowls and plates falling off the cabinets and break).

We crawled out slowly, opened the door and met some other residents out in the hall. One of them were crying. We hugged each other out. We were terrified and scared. I called the duty RA immediately to ask her what's the procedure and what should I do. That's when I realised, we were locked out of the apartment. We sat out in the hall with few other people as we calm ourselves down and prepare for the aftershocks (which happened for nearly every hour for the rest of the day). Went down to the common room to make ourselves feel better. The elevators were down, so we had to use the stairs and there was a LOT of cracks.

Things got worse as we received warning for tsunami and the area near my building was marked red (people was asked to evacuate and go to higher grounds). After a while we went back up to the room but we still couldn't sleep for the next few hours. The room was shaking every few minutes. In fact, it is happening now as I'm typing.
